Danielle's Story

(24x36) Black and Grey Tattoo, Mixed Media on Metal

When I worked with Danielle, I couldn’t help but think, “Wow, I am in the presence of a queen.” Despite enduring childhood abuse and trauma, she has raised three remarkable children and built a successful career in education. Danielle loves, supports, and nurtures those around her. She is both loved and respected; she embodies a balance of softness and strength. I believe her strength is rooted in the immense loss that she and her children faced over a nine-year period. During that time, Danielle and her three young children attended ten funerals, bidding farewell to her mother, father, father-in-law, grandmother, and three other grandparents, alongside the end of her marriage. Even today, she smiles with radiance, like a She Warrior Queen who has just conquered the world. (Written by Naomi)

Quote (from She Warrior submission) by Danielle said, “Instead of giving up, I stood strong for my babies because they needed me, and I needed me….my hope is that they see a Warrior in me and continue to be the amazing warriors they’ve all become.

Bird: Royal Tern

I aimed to select a bird that reflects Danielle’s Native American heritage while also symbolizing the royalty and strength she embodies. The Royal Tern, found along the coast of Louisiana, has a name that truly represents its significance. (Written by Naomi)
