Denise's Story

Denise is a retired sergeant who embodies resilience and empathy. For many years, she was the only female sergeant in her patrol division and one of only 10 female officers in her department. Throughout her career, she developed a unique “working style” as a police officer, dedicating herself to supporting numerous sexual assault victims with compassion and understanding.

Despite facing personal challenges such as family issues, toxic relationships, and a sense of not truly “fitting in,” Denise transformed into her own She Warrior. She navigated life’s hurdles by leaning on her friends, discovering her dream home after retirement, healing from multiple knee surgeries, and finding joy and inspiration through photography. 

Tattooing Denise was a profound experience, as she exemplifies inspiration.

No matter the hardships life presented, she consistently rose to the occasion, demonstrating remarkable strength and determination. She never let life knock her down. (Written by Naomi)

Bird: American Flamingo 

This choice felt natural for me. I’ve had the pleasure of tattooing Denise before. She has a Flamingo on her other leg from a few years back. This time, I chose to create another Flamingo, but this one carries a different significance. It symbolizes Denise’s resilience—her unwavering strength in the face of adversity. No matter what challenges she encounters, she will stand tall, more beautiful than ever! (Written by Naomi)
